Going for a walk tomorrow...

[livejournal.com profile] helwen and I went for a walk to the local grocery store this afternoon, to pick up a few items. The distance is just under one mile, each way.

Walking there was the easy part. Walking back, however, with the pack basket loaded with the items that we had bought (somewhere between 30 and 35 lbs of goods), was a bit more interesting. It's different doing that in armor -- the weight is more evenly distributed.

Good exercise.

I`ve been hauling a 35lb suitcase around Germany. Use wheels it`s much easier. Don't try to lift it over your head. Ask me how I know:P

When I was in London for the semester, I could walk to Portobello Market, which, besides antiques, has an extensive farmers' and grocery market. I used to spend about $40--but come home with a backpack and four plastic grocery bags.

The weight was, as you note, a nuisance, and not evenly distributed. But the stupid plastic grocery bags cutting into my hands was worse.

I wished for my little red wagon.

Frame Pack

Something that will transfer the weight from your shoulders to your hips will make carrying that much mass enormously easier.
