Just what I don't need

Spent time in the woods this weekend, and then camped out overnight in the hay loft of the barn. That was great fun.

Found a tick (ick) on the upper arm of one of the members of Sunday morning. Removed it fairly easily. As far as I know, he's fine.

Found a tick on my inner thigh (double-ick) later in the day. Removal wasn't so successful, as it had gotten itself better established. At least part of the head is still in the skin. The site had a red ring around it last night, as if someone had drawn a circle using a fine-point red pen. Getting that looked at by the doctor some time tomorrow.

This morning, made the mistake of reaching across the top of the tea kettle for something (probably a spoon for stirring the oatmeal). I now have a second degree burn on my forearm.

YUP, A Doc visit is DEFINATLEY in order there. Bullseye rash after tick bite is clearly some form of infection, and could be Lyme. Not something to mess with and best treated quickly.

I used to work for the health department labeling ticks that people brought in to be sent out for testing. I've only actually gotten one on me once and it came out easily with a pair of tweezers (always grasp by the head of the tick). That rash does sound like lyme (the bullseye is the fancy rash, but it can come in a dozen forms or not come at all)- a test for spyrokeets (which I'm sure I'm misspelling) might be able to confirm it. If you've still got the tick, they might be able to test that (the place we sent ours to was in CT). My mother in law just got lyme from a tick today, so if it were a different type of disease, I'd say it was going around. Good luck.

It's difficult to grasp the head of the tick when it's body is half-way into the skin following that head. This one was well embedded, regrettably. Unfortunately, also, we didn't know to keep the body of the tick afterwards. We'll know better should I ever have the misfortune to repeat this experience.

Doctor says that the infection is [probably] localized.
