fitzw | Hey, those are my chores!

My father is doing much better, so much so that he has started taking back some of his chores. For example, he's started handling washing the eggs and putting them into the cartons, and yesterday and today he has done the afternoon egg gathering. I still take care of feeding the chickens and collecting the eggs first thing in the morning, as well as any wrangling of the cattle that's needed. Tomorrow I'll be loading 50 bales into the truck for delivery to a neighboring farm, with a repeat of the process on Wednesday or Thursday.

It's funny how quickly you can get used to doing a lot of chores that you haven't been doing before. When I started gathering the eggs, I was collecting few eggs per day than we're now getting in the afternoon gathering (which is less than half of what we get in the morning gathering). The chickens are now used to me, and the cattle will come running to my call from about 1/8 mi. away (the other side of our 40 acre field). I was already used to hauling hay bales around, so that's nothing exceptional. I've done fence repair and barn door repair.

Much as I am happy to see my father getting back to his work, and wanting to make sure that he has meaningful work (with is necessary for an old farmer for him), it will be difficult for me to give up the chores.

I guess I'll just have to come up with some new chores that have been waiting for this opportunity.
