My day so far

I'm doing my father's chores for the next few weeks. So far today, I've:

  • Made a new egg glove

  • Gathered the eggs

  • Fixed the light timer for the chickens

  • Made sure that the heifers were still in the pasture

  • Pulled three staves of locust out of the pile for making new fence posts

  • Moved 23 boxes of just-delivered bread dough to various freezers (Ashfield Fall Festival this weekend)

  • Restacked about 300 sap buckets in the barn

  • Drove my mother to work

  • Put my mother's car on the battery charger

And then I went to work.

What is an egg glove?

That's just a fingerless leather glove, to protect the back of the hand when reaching under hens in the nests to get the eggs. My father was using a fingerless knit glove, but it wasn't doing as well as a leather one (he was having trouble getting it on and off because of the soft cuff). I had a pair of gloves with several holes in the fingertips, so I converted one.
