Winter Solstice

There was a Solstice celebration on the town common in my home town this evening. [livejournal.com profile] helwen and I had been invited to be part of the organizing committee this year.

There was a bonfire. There was singing (by our small choir, the Bergental Concentus; by three young ladies from the Academy at Charlemont; by one of the other committee members trying to lead the attendees in a Solstice round). There was dancing (a morris team, Juggler Meadow Morris) and a mummer's play (same morris team). There was story telling (Rochelle Wildfong).

There was the sharing of Intentions. In previous years, the Intentions were done by lighting a candle while speaking your Intention (community harmony, health, peace, cold weather and no mosquitoes, that sort of thing). This year, because of the wind gusts about to 45 MPH, the Intentions were only spoken, without lighting the candle, but we used an opening phrase of "I light a light for ..." to help maintain the candle image.

I think I forgot to put on my boot socks before going out; I was burying my feet in the snow to keep them warm. You would think I would remember, since I was wearing my thermal suit...

Happy Solstice!
