So, a busy two days, plus some time before and after. Setup for [livejournal.com profile] helwen began on Friday afternoon at 4:00 PM, so we needed to bring up her display racks, tables, and a stool, as well as the artwork and crafts (découpage and woven wool scarves). I brought up some more items on Saturday morning when I drove my mother up earlier than we needed to be there, and then the last items came up with us at 9:00 AM. The festival opened at 10:00 AM both days, and closed at 5:00 PM, with cleanup afterwards.

I hired our friend D to help me with maple cotton candy sales. I made the cotton candy, and he pretty much handled everything else: making the mix (1:10 granulated maple sugar to granulated cane sugar), separating the paper cones, making the sales, sometimes making sure that the hopper in the machine was filled while I was putting another cone of cotton candy in a bag (sometimes I needed his help getting a particularly stubborn cone into a particularly stubborn bag). He had a good sense of timing for his side of things, and I rarely had to ask him for something before he had it ready for me.

We sold ~370 cotton candy on Satuday, and ~385 cotton candy on Sunday. Not a record, but not bad, either. We were definitely ready for the end of both days. The three of us went out for dinner at the local pizza restaurant on Sunday evening.

Family and customers estimate that I've been selling cotton candy at the Fall Festival for at least 25 years — one customer has a photograph of herself at age 1 with a cotton candy, and that was 24 years ago.

Before that, I was selling popcorn, but a group at the First Congregational Church took that operation over.
