I went out with [livejournal.com profile] helwen yesterday to gather the buckets and sap tanks once more before boiling today. There was actually enough sap that we would have had to make two trips, the second to collect two of the pipeline tanks, but I decided to delay the second trip until this morning to allow the pipeline tanks more time to run overnight (since it didn't get below freezing last night). So, almost 13 bbl of sap yesterday (full tank would be 15 bbl), and another 7-8 bbl this morning.

They're already started the boiling process today, after running the R.O. machine starting at 7:00 AM.

I doubt that there will be sufficient sap to be worth gathering again this afternoon, but I will be checking anyway. More likely that I will have to gather tomorrow some time, to gather enough sap to push sap that hasn't been through the R.O. through the evaporator as part of the process for final cleaning (nothing cleans up syrup like hot sap).

As part of that gathering I will probably have the work crew pulling the taps for the buckets, stacking the buckets in the back of the truck. I had planned to have two trucks, but I'm not sure that I will have enough workers tomorrow to justify it (I need to call my nephew L to see if he can put together a second crew).

The pipelines will be disconnected when there's a little less snow up in the woods. ;-)

Three of the four tanks for the pipelines can be brought in as soon as we're ready, but the fourth, well, the fourth is actually frozen into a snow bank. Still.

This has been a very interesting season.
