The day and tomorrow
Jan. 8th, 2011 07:31 pmGrey day all day. Got up early this morning to take water to and spread cracked corn for the chickens, followed by about an hour's worth of plowing to clear the dooryard driveways and part of the driveway on the west side of the barn.
Then drove the Honda Civic (that used to belong to my father) to our mechanics for a review of what was needed to get the car ready to pass inspection this month (after taking ownership from my mother — don't want to have to pay for the inspection twice if I can help it). Necessary repairs for inspection included four new tires (with new valve stems, balancing, and alignment), brakes all around (pads and rotors front, shoes and drums rear, break system flush, didn't need to replace the calipers at least), plus replacement of constant velocity (CV) joint behind the left front tire (cracked boot spraying grease), and a rear windshield wiper (!). Necessary repairs outside of the inspection included replacing a leaky head gasket that was spraying oil around the engine. Returned late in the day to clean out ashes from bottom of wood-fired boiler, load more wood, and gather eggs.
Tomorrow, a trip to the transfer point for trash and recycling, and more plowing (remainder of driveways around the barn, lower driveway near workshop, and sugarhouse driveway). There will be choir practice in the evening.
I'm also going to try to get in practice on the two-person weapon set with
helwen at some point, probably in the upper barn. Maybe we'll have a chance to walk on the hillside in the new snow, so that she can show me what she learned about tracking.
